Money exchange
I have always found that to exchange money at the local village bank gives a far more competitive exchange rate. There are also other tourist exchange facilities in the bay area as well as ATM machines.
Health matters
Make sure you have good health insurance. If you need the doctor, there is a tourist health centre in the resort where they speak very good English or you can visit the local Doctor in the village. The staff in the local pharmacy are also very helpful.Bring your EHIC card with you it can be obtained on the Internet.
The local water has a different mineral content to that you are used to and you are advised to buy bottled water for drinking. Washing, cleaning teeth etc however do not present a problem.
Climate
In the months of July and August it gets very warm although due to prevailing winds this is not always obvious so remember to bring adequate skin protection or alternatively you can purchase a variety of proprietary products in most of the supermarkets. If you are prone to mosquito bites then be advised to bring insect repellant in the hot months for the evening.
May and October can be comparatively cool in the evenings and you may need a light jumper or jacket.

Dining
Galini Restaurant prides itself on its fresh food and local specialities which may not appear on the menu but can be arranged for you if you give George a couple of days notice. If you go up to the village and want a snack you will find plenty of places to go, but for the best Pizza I recommend Kapsoulis, he bakes and makes them to order on the premises.
There are many other tavernas in the resort to try. Within 4 or 5 kilometres of Kefalos there are tavernas which specialise in Fish dishes or are located in idyllic beach locations such as Aghios Theologos or Limnionas.
The tavernas in Kos town generally have a “greeter and seater” who will attempt to entice you into his particular taverna. You will also find it more expensive than Kefalos.
Should you be in Kos town and would like a traditional meze then go to Ampavris which is about 1.5 kilometres from the centre of Kos town, so you can either drive or walk, and you will find a delightful taverna where you dine in the courtyard of an old farmhouse.
Car Hire
If you wish to go beyond Kefalos to explore, you will need to hire a car or scooter. Quad bikes are also available. BE CAREFUL. Look at the small print as the cheapest is not always accompanied by full insurance which is essential for your own well being.
You must remember that in Kos you drive on the right. This is easier than you may expect as all the cars also have the steering wheel on the opposite side. The law requires you to wear seat belts and carry your passport, driving licence and insurance documents with you in the car at all times. Infringement can attract on the spot fines
Kos is the Island for Weddings
If you should ever consider a Greek Wedding sometime in the future then Joy Chapman runs Kos Island Weddings and can be seen in the village or even on TV see http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=VYJn1ooKWTY from a Nice Day for a Greek Wedding.
